For paddleboard enthusiasts, the first time getting that great paddleboard must have felt like a worthy investment. Ahead lay long hours of gliding on lakes and rivers with the SUP paddle, surrounded by natural beauty.

You obviously want your paddleboard to last you a long time for you to continue enjoying the outdoors via the waterways and this means proper storage and maintenance.

This guide explores the various ways for proper paddleboard storage.

There are two main locations for SUP storage—indoors and outdoors.

Note that the position you choose for storing your SUP should provide the board with protection from UV radiation. Exposure to the sun’s rays can damage the shell of the board and cause bright colors to fade.

Moisture is also something to be avoided as it can damage the outer shell and the structural integrity of the board.

The third thing that the soft top paddleboard should be protected from is extreme heat. Whether it’s from the sun or another source, it can cause the shell to delaminate.

Storing indoors is probably the best choice as it offers protection from the sun, moisture and keeps the board away from any destructive heat. If you are a fan of how your standup paddleboard looks, then you can hang it in your living room.

However, if you have limited space and would prefer not to keep your SUP indoors, then you can find a good place to store your SUP outside. You need to make sure that the board is away from direct sunlight. Place it at a cool dry and shady spot.

You can even place it under a tarp. However, it is best to hang the tarp over the board rather than wrapping the board with the tarp. This is in case there is rain and water gets absorbed by the tarp, the moisture could damage the shell of the board.
