1. Pedal Quickly When Approaching a Turn 

Assume the right position. Do not crouch too much as this can put unnecessary strain on your back. Position your hands properly in the MTB handlebars. Make sure to stay relaxed so that you can easily control the bike. Otherwise, you will be too stiff and you will have a hard time maneuvering the bike in the right direction.

3. Shift Your Weight Over the Handlebars 

As you go around the turn, shift your weight forward, over the handlebars. This is done by simply leaning to the front. The goal is to lighten the load on the rear wheel of the bike. This is what will let it skid on the ground. 

At the start of the turn, you will feel that the back wheel is already skidding. If you need the tire to break loose, engage the rear brake. 

4. Extend Your Inside Foot 

To drift, you will need to extend your inside foot so that it will hover slightly above the surface. This is a necessary move to retain balance and control. Keep this position until the bike completes the turn. 

5. Go Back to an Upright Position 

The last step on how to drift a bike is to shift the weight of your body to its original position. Earlier, during the drift, you were leaning at 45 degrees to the ground. After the turn, the rear MTB wheel must have already regained traction and you should be in your original riding position.
